His work blends the best of environmental design—inviting spaces that evoke moods and settings at a glance—with an attention to content and a subtle wit that gives each exhibit a memorable twist.

When not teaching, Martinez is Senior Design Lead at Thinc Design, where his institutional project portfolio includes work with the Connecticut Science Center, Louisiana State Museum System, Royal Alberta Museum, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, MIT Museum, and the National September 11 Memorial Museum. He has worked on living exhibits for the San Francisco Zoo and been outsmarted by the residents of the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Martinez's corporate clients over the years have included Unilever, Agfa, McDonald’s, Johnson & Johnson, Sharp, GE, and Philips. His event design experience ranges from stage and pavilion design for the TED Conference to association design of trade shows and conventions such as the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show, RSNA Annual Meeting, International Machining Technology Show, FABTECH International, BEA Book Expo America, Globalshop, and the Chicago and Detroit International Auto Shows.
