Eligibility

If you are a high school student
You may not apply directly to the bachelor's degree program. High school students should apply to a two-year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree program and after completing that degree, apply to the two-year bachelor's program.

If you have an AAS from FIT
You may apply to the bachelor's degree program. The Fabric Styling BFA is a professional art degree related to Textile Design.

If the interested AAS student from FIT is not an Art and Design AAS graduate, in order to be eligible for consideration, the applicant must complete an additional 30 credits in art and design coursework, including: 6 credits of art/design history and 24 credits that include coursework in drawing, digital drawing in Adobe Creative Suite or Illustrator, and a combination of design-focused courses for professional artists.

If you have credits or a degree from another college
You may apply to the two-year BFA program in Fabric Styling as a transfer student if you meet one of the following criteria by the time you enroll at FIT:

  • you will have an earned associates degree from an accredited college and your credits include: 18 credits meeting SUNY general education requirements, 30 credits in art and design coursework, including: 6 credits of art/design history and 24 credits that include coursework in drawing, digital drawing in Adobe Creative Suite or Illustrator, and a combination of design-focused courses for professional artists.
  • you will have earned at least 60 credits towards a bachelor's degree at a 4-year institution with credit in the following areas: 18 credits meeting SUNY general education requirements, 30 credits in art and design coursework, including: 6 credits of art/design history and 24 credits that include coursework in drawing, digital drawing in Adobe Creative Suite or Illustrator, and a combination of design-focused courses for professional artists.

*Most Associates degree programs in Art and Design meet the course distribution requirement for admission. FIT's admissions office can assist you if you have any questions.

Please note that FIT AAS students receive priority admissions consideration.
