Alumni Gallery Walk

Join fellow FIT alumni for an inspiring Gallery Walk visiting three distinctive contemporary art spaces in the Lower East Side that are founded or led by fellow FIT alums. Enjoy a beautiful spring evening of art, community, and learning about art and the spaces it occupies. We will visit three locations, and adjourn the evening over toasts of sparkling wine, lite bites, and meaningful conversation.

Charting a Course Toward Circularity

FIT's 19th Annual Sustainable Business and Design Conference will focus on how the creative industries are leading the effort to reduce consumption and waste of material resources. The Department of Film, Media, and Performing Arts invites the FIT community to attend Industry Tuesdays, a weekly series featuring a film screening followed by a Q&A with a special guest. The upcoming guest is Michael Emerson, an actor who is best known for his roles as Benjamin Linus on Lost and as Harold Finch in the CBS series Person of Interest (2011–2016).
Fashion over 50:Women’s Self-Images, Shopping Frustrations, and Solutions

From Data to Design: Rethinking Fashion's Approach to Plus Size Shoppers

Professor Mallorie Dunn will present her findings from FIT's Presidential Diversity Grant entitled "Accurate Size Research: The Collection of Data and Vital Importance of Realistic Consumer Sizes," which will be followed by Q&A from the audience. Members of the public are welcome to join, but registration is required.

To celebrate Women's History Month, we hosted a lecture highlighting women's role in shaping the garment district of the past and a panel discussion featuring the women shaping it today, including Jodie Chan, Executive Producer of Invisible Seams and Global Head of Communications at Carolina Herrera; Joy Mao, Textile Artist and Fashion Designer and a subject of Invisible seams; Michelle Feinberg, FIT Alum, Owner, and Designer at New York Embroidery Studio; Dr. Dan Levinson Wilk, Professor of Social Science at FIT; and Dr. Kyunghee Pyun Associate Professor in History of Art at FIT.

FIT students, faculty, and alumni celebrated the launch of RE.UNIQLO FIT Collection, LIVE AND LET RE.LIVE, at UNIQLO's 5th avenue flagship location. This collaboration was led by the FIT Dtech Lab and supported by the FIT Foundation.
Three innovative Fashion Design students, Sam Cho, Bridgette Schaeffer, and Nuo Cheng, created an 11-piece collection, while two talented Advertising and Digital Design students, MJ (Minjeong) Park and Andrew Grechko, joined forces with RE.UNIQLO to create the RE.LIVE campaign and website to promote the collection.

Faces and Places in Fashion: Launching a Clean Company

Days.
The opening celebration of The Unwearable Collection, a design collection that illustrates the profound burden of life with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP).
For the first time, all five pieces of the Collection will be on display—including ‘Trapped by Uncertainty’, a thought-provoking design created by FIT students and faculty that expresses the emotional uncertainty of life with this rare disease.
Showcasing the talents of the Spatial Design department, Fashion and Textile Studies conservators and curatorial assistants, and Special Collections and College Archives, exhibition organizer Karen Trivette and artist Dr. Daria Dorosh seamlessly integrate costume, technology, perfumery, drawings, and material objects to illustrate the multifaceted legacy of FIT.

The FIT Film + Media Screening Series hosted a screening of the documentary, Stonewall Uprising, A True Story of Riot and Rebellion, presented as part of FIT's LGBTQ+ History Month programming.
We had the honor of being joined by community elders and Stonewall veterans from the NYC Edie Windsor Center. Following the screening, directors Katie Davis and David Heilbroner took questions from the audience and had a lively discussion of LGBTQ+ history.
This event was sponsored by the Film and Media Department, the School of Liberal Arts, the FIT Foundation, and the LGBTQ+ Student Alliance.

FIT Alumni joined us at Brooklyn BioBat Art Space for a curator-led tour of Embodied Futures & The Ecology of Care, which featured a bioart installation by alum Lolo Ostia.
Faces and Places in Fashion is a lecture series, class, and forum for prominent fashion professionals to discuss their trade, experience, and perspective on the business. The course is taught by Professor Caroline Gordon, whose experience includes work as a buyer, merchandiser, and sales leader. Lectures are open to the public.
