Letter from the Chief Diversity Officer

Greetings,

Welcome to the website of the Office of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

The role of chief diversity officer was established in June 2017 by President Joyce F. Brown to provide leadership and vision for initiatives that align with the principles and goals of the college’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan. The CDO, along with FIT’s Diversity Council, guides efforts to communicate to the college constituency our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; develop and monitor the college's Strategic Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan; prepare and analyze reports to monitor our success; and conceptualize diversity as a campus and educational priority.

Diversity enhances the learning experience by exposing and challenging us to consider, weigh, and value the thoughts, experiences and practices of others different from ourselves. The college strongly believes that we have an obligation to create the best possible educational environment for students whose lives are likely to be significantly changed during their time at FIT.

We encourage you to explore FIT’s website, where you will find a wealth of information on events, activities, programs, opportunities, and resources related to diversity and inclusion issues. We encourage you to get involved as we strive to make FIT a global leader of inclusive excellence in the creative arts for the 21st century.
