HSX 021: Observational Drawing for Portfolios 
COURSE MATERIALS:
           1. 18"x 24" All Purpose Pad.
           2. Soft,Medium and Hard Charcoal Pencils.
           3. Pink Eraser.

           5. Grey 18"x 24" Charcoal Paper.

HSX 022: Portraits for Portfolios 
COURSE MATERIALS-

  • 18" x 24" all purpose drawing paper (around 70- 90 lbs)
  • two sheets of medium grey charcoal paper 18”x 24”
  • graphite pencils: 2B, 4B, 6B
  • charcoal pencil-medium
  • brown conte crayon
  • vine charcoal- medium
  • compressed charcoal
  • small container of black ink
  • ½” or ¾” wide brush
  • small cup for water
  • eraser

HSX 025: Watercolor Workshop 
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:

  • Brushes:
  • 3 inch hake
  • ¾ inch flat
  • #8 or #6 round
  • watercolor brushes only; short handles – NOT long
  • Paper:  16” x 20” watercolor pad – Strathmore 140 lb. cold press
  • Watercolors: Yarka or other student-grade watercolor set – NO TUBES
  • small butcher pan –  for watercolor
  • #2 pencil and an eraser
  • sea sponge
  • 2 plastic cups
  • An inexpensive, rigid support large enough to tape down paper size 16” x 20”
     

HSX 027: Wearable Sculpture 
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:

  • Sketchbook, pencils or preferred drawing materials (students are encouraged to bring preliminary design sketches to the first class) 
  • soft tape measure
  • sample fabrics
  • design references (magazines, Pinterest, etc.)

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS:

  • Masking tape
  • 24 gauge X 100 ft. soft flexible wire
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Wire-cutter
  • One roll of cotton batting, 45 X 60 inches or similar size (Heirloom brand at Michaels is very nice)
  • One 16 oz. bottle of Original Irene’s Tack Glue
  • Several 1” and 2” bristle brushes for glue (a bag of mixed sizes is available)

HSX 035: Model Building Workshop 
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:

  • White foam core size: 20" x 30"
  • Metal ruler 24"
  • Plastic triangle set with 90 and 45 degree angles (no larger than 12”)
  •  Exacto knife to cut foam
  • Pencil and white eraser
  • Elmer school glue - 7.6250z
     

HSX 055: Exploring Interior Design
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:   

  • Architect’s Scale (¼”)
  • Scissors/ White Eraser
  • 2B-HB Pencils
  • Poster boards (11x17” White, thicker)/
  • Notebook for note-taking
  • 90 Degree Rt. Triangle
  • Rubber cement glue

 
HSX 080: Character Creation 
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:    

  • Loose leaf binder
  • Notebook
  • Drawing paper pad (11”x14”)
  • Drawing pencil (Staedtler Mars, B or equivalent)
  • Erasers (kneaded and white plastic)
  • Bristol Board pad (vellum/regular surface, 9”x12”)
  • Cork-backed metal ruler (18”)

  • Ink Pens (Pigma Micron Black, .08 and Graphic 1)

HSX 084: Designing a Fashion Mini-Collection (Sec A- Prof. Cutting)
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:

  • Kneaded eraser
  • 2H pencils
  • Pencil sharpener11"x 14" tracing paper pad
  • 11" x 14" marker pad (Border & Riley layout visual bond #37 )
  • Folder or large envelope to store supplies, swatches and reference materials.

  • This is a fashion portfolio class and any other supplies required will be advised by instructor based on student projects.


HSX 084: Designing a Fashion Mini-Collection
 (Sec. B- Prof. Moyer)

COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:

  • Current month issue of your favorite fashion magazine(s)
  • Notebook
  • Tracing pad (11”x14”)
  • Marker pad (11”x14”)
  • Fine-line black markers in three weights (eg. .01, .05, .08)
  • (1 of each of the following is required immediately Black/Brown/Red- PC923 Scarlet Lake/ 1 Grey)
    Artists pencils (HB/B/3B and 6B)
  • Kneaded eraser
  • C-thru plastic ruler 12”
  • 11”x14” portfolio sleeve, open on 3 sides, minimum of 1

  • Assorted Chartpak markers (Colors your choice, will advise when to purchase)
  • Berol Prismacolor color pencils- your choice, will advise when to purchase

HSX 088: Simply Sewing 
COURSE MATERIALS:

  • Thread: select color to match your fabric
  • *Fabric: Choice of cotton woven or cotton knit. 2-3 yds depending on project
  • Legging fabric: Stetch knit fabric only. Should be heavy enough to be used as pant
  • Optional: Students can bring additional trims and embellishments to enhance their garments

*Please note: Do not select plaid fabrics, or very thin or sheer fabrics. 


HSX 090: Finding Fashion Design Inspirations 
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:

  • 11 x 14 Borden/Riley #37 Bright White Translucent Visual Bond Layout Pad
  • 11 x 14 Tracing Paper Ai Friedman Swiss
  • Prismacolor Pencils set of 12 or 24
  • Drawing Pencils 2HB

  • Chartpak Markers (Skin tone of your choice such as Sand,  2 colors of your choice for the first day.) 2-4 additional colors for class based on the project choice. (Approx. Total of 5-7 markers.)

HSX 096: A Week in the Life of a Fashion Designer (Sec 55A- Prof. Argiro)
COURSE MATERIALS-OPENING DAY:
Canson Field Sketch Art Book 14”  x 11” (available at Blick: item number 10349-2005) , 1 pen, 1 pencil, scotch tape, camera (cell phone camera is great but student can bring any camera they like to use to take inspiration pictures)

HSX 096: A Week in the Life of a Fashion Designer (Sec 55B- Prof. Katz)
COURSE MATERIALS OPENING DAY:   Sketchbook, pens, pencils, laptop (very helpful, but not required).
ADDITIONAL:  1 item of used clothing
 

HSX 110: Photography Portrait Workshop 
COURSE MATERIALS: 

  • Notebook and pen.
  • Digital SLR camera (Single Lens Reflex) or point and shoot camera. DSLR camera will give you a better result.
  • A MetroCard with two fares
  • A 16gig flash drive (this will be used for image collection and during the first class PDFs of textbooks, photography based movies and handouts)
