Space Planning
The department of Space Planning and Management works to:
- standardize the space allocation process;
- meet current and future needs and accreditation requirements;
- govern equitable and optimal space allocation among the academic programs, academic support, administrative, and student support units of the college;
- and ensure adherence to all applicable building, health, safety, and accessibility codes and regulations.
All allocation of space on campus, as well as movement of furniture, classroom functions, and staff workspaces, must involve Space Planning and Management.
Campus Master Plan
A campus master plan outlines the development of a college’s physical facilities to support the school’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
FIT produced a campus master plan every 10 years: in 1995, 2005, and 2015. The master planning process is a collaborative effort among faculty, staff, and students. The final report is a framework of short- and long-term projects outlined to ensure that the built environment compliments the shifts in pedagogy, curriculum, industry, technology, and culture.
Residence Hall Master Plan (.pdf)
The Residential Life Master Plan reviewed the current status of FIT's four residence halls (Alumni, Nagler, Coed, Kaufman) to assess student housing needs. The final report summarizes FIT’s planning goals, process, space needs, and final recommendations.
Space Planning Policy
The purpose of the policy is to enable the optimal use of college space resources. This policy applies to all college spaces, whether owned or leased.
