Biography

Nancy Eder is an Art Historian who specializes in Asian Art. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Fashion Institute of Technology where she teaches East Asian Art and Civilization and the Art and Civilization of India. Nancy is also a Contractual Lecturer in the Education Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she teaches for Adult Gallery Programs. Nancy’s focus is on the pedagogy of art history. As such, she has participated in many professional development projects at FIT. She was part of a year-long workshop funded by the National Education Association called “Pathways to Global Communication.” She is also a Diversity Ambassador at FIT in support of the mission to foster a climate of inclusion within the campus community.

Selected Publications

Nancy published two lesson plans for the Art History Teaching Resources (AHTR). AHTR is a peer-populated resource for art history teachers. One lesson plan covers Hindu Art and Architecture before 1300, the other covers Chinese Art before 1300. Both were published in January of 2015. She also published a chapter called “From Horse-Drawn Carriages to Internet Searches: How Teaching Indian Art Has Changed In the Twentieth-Century” in Kim, Bokung and Kyunghee Pyun eds. Teaching South and Southeast Asian Art: Multiethnicity, Cross-Racial Interaction, and Nationalism. (London: Palgrave Macmillan), 2023.
