SXT 125 Insider’s Guide: Fashion Design Resources for Creating Designs and Making
Samples
Find out how fabrics and trim are sourced, how sketches turn into patterns, and how
samples are executed. Take a close look at the ins and outs of getting design elements
together. Discover local resources used by top designers, include key industry fabric
suppliers, trim resources, and little-known stores that are treasure troves of inspiration
for designers from around the world, all located in New York City's Garment District.
Food and subway costs not included in course fee. No same-day registration.

SXT 500 Insider's Guide: Shopping Quality Vintage
Find out how to acquire unique vintage clothes and one-of-a-kind accessories at affordable
prices in reliable vintage and resale shops in Chelsea. Program begins at FIT with
a short discussion of the ins and outs of this bargain-hunting specialty, including
how to evaluate period clothing and accessories. Part of each session is spent in
the field searching for authentic pieces. A vintage shopping resource list is provided

SXT 510 Vintage Shopping
With a little FIT guidance you can take advantage of your local vintage and re-sale
shops, and online resources with confidence. Program begins with a quick historical
guide to enable you to date and identify the age of apparel and accessory items, and
recognize designer and label names from bygone eras. Find out how to negotiate on
price. Get an introduction to internet shopping from vintage e-tailers and resources.
Excellent resources for stylists and image consultants. Students will have research
assignments throughout the three sessions.

SXT 810 Fashion Retailers for Sustainable Products
Now may be the best time to incorporate ethical and sustainable clothing and products
into your wardrobe, lifestyle, or as a designer, your lines and inventory. Learn which brands are working to help make a difference
as well as reduce negative impact on the environment. Learn about product lifecycles and how they affect our environment and daily lives. Learn which designers are organic
and are using recycled fabrics and who is employing fair trade practices. Discover what steps you can take to go green in this virtual tour of eco friendly
and ethical fashion retailers and gain resources for sustainable fashion for clothing, accessories, household and beauty
products. Students are required to do research and watch some films for virtual discussion throughout the course.
