A love of all things "old" led Sarah Byrd to collections and preservation of the past in order to understand the present. She currently teaches courses related to the history, preservation, and material culture of fashion and textiles at FIT, New York University, and Parsons. As a fashion archivist, Byrd has worked on a wide range of projects for both private collectors and large corporations including Condé Nast, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, and PVH. She also collaborates with the Textile Arts Center Artist-in-Residence series and is co-founder of the Fashion Studies Alliance.
Byrd’s independent research focuses on the history of clothing within American cults and communes and the role of museums in fashion education.
