Referrals
The Counseling Center can provide referrals to community providers for a range of services, including longer-term therapy, medication management, support groups, clinical assessments, and specialized treatments. We offer referrals to providers who are in network with your insurance, as well as those who match particular preferences for therapeutic needs.
To learn more about the referral process at the Counseling Center, please call our office at 212-217-4260. We would be happy to schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss referrals to off-campus providers in more detail.

FAQ:
What are the differences between LCSW, LMHC, Ph.D, and NP?
Professionals with these licenses all hold either masters-level or doctoral degrees and have completed the requirements to become a licensed therapist. While those who hold an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor), and Ph.D (psychologist) provide therapy, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners (NP) typically provide medication management services, not psychotherapy. For more information, please see the following article here which breaks down the different licenses for mental health professionals.
How should I contact a provider I am interested in meeting with off campus?
It is recommended to reach out to a few different providers to make sure you are working with a provider who is the right fit for you and also matches your availability. Please explore their services and reach out to them as instructed, either by phone or through their website. If you do not receive a response within two business days, we encourage you to contact them again. Please remember it is always important to verify insurance, specific plan, and copay when contacting a new provider and before attending your first appointment.
