Biography
Amy Lemmon has taught at FIT since 1996 and joined the department full-time in 2000. She is the recipient of a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2004-05) and the FIT Faculty Excellence Award (2015).
Prof. Lemmon is the author of three poetry collections: Fine Motor (Sows Ear Poetry Review Press, 2008), Saint Nobody (Red Hen Press, 2009), and The Miracles (C&R Press, 2019), and co-author, with Denise Duhamel, of the chapbooks ABBA: The Poems (Coconut Books, 2010) and Enjoy Hot or Iced: Poems in Conversation and a Conversation (Slapering Hol Press, 2011). Her poems, essays, and translations have appeared in Rolling Stone,New Letters,Prairie Schooner, Verse, Court Green, The Journal, Marginalia, and many other magazines and anthologies. Twice nominated for a Pushcart Prize, her work has been translated into Spanish and Chinese and was selected for The Best American Poetry 2013. Dr. Lemmon has contributed articles to The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Poets and Poetry, and the Facts on File Companion to Twentieth-Century British Poetry.
Dr. Lemmon has served on the faculty of the West Chester Poetry Conference (PA) and is the recipient of a Walter E. Dakin Fellowship and a Tennessee Williams Scholarships from the Sewanee Writers Conference, and scholarships from the Vermont Studio Center, West Chester Poetry Conference, and Antioch Writers Workshop. Awards include the Elliston Poetry Prize, the Ruth Cable Poetry Prize, and the Ruskin Art Club Poetry Prize. Dr. Lemmon has served as faculty advisor to FIT Words: The Club for Writers, Poetry Editor of the online literary magazine Ducts.org, and co-creator and editor of The CDC Poetry Project. She has judged the Poetry Out Loud NYC regional competition since 2015 and in 2019 will judge the New York State Finals.
