Yasemin Jones, PhD
Dr. Yasemin Jones has served as interim vice president for Academic Affairs at FIT
since June 2021. In this role, she provides leadership for the college’s educational
programs and faculty initiatives, working closely with the Faculty Senate, academic
deans, and leaders across divisions.
She oversees FIT’s four academic schools—Art and Design, Business and Technology, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Graduate Studies—along with key academic and student support units, including the Gladys Marcus Library, Center for Continuing and Professional Studies, Office of International Programs, Grants and Sponsored Programs, Precollege Programs, Presidential Scholars Honors Program, Institutional Research and Effectiveness, Faculty Affairs, and Faculty and Academic Program Support.
As interim vice president, Jones advances FIT’s strategic plan, strengthens academic processes, and supports faculty hiring, development, promotion, and tenure. She also serves as the college’s accreditation liaison officer for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).
Prior to this role, she was associate vice president for FIT's Faculty and Academic Program Support areas and held leadership positions across the City University of New York, including Queens College, where she focused on advancing academic initiatives and improving institutional processes. She has also served as co-principal investigator on federally funded grants and taught mathematics and developmental psychology as adjunct faculty.
Jones earned her PhD and MPhil in educational psychology from The Graduate School and University Center, The City University of New York, with a research focus on the development of mathematics teachers’ subject matter and pedagogical knowledge. She holds a BA cum laude in psychology from the University of California, Irvine. Born and raised in Izmir, Turkey, Jones immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized U.S. citizen at age 12.
