Monitoring weather this weekend

Sent via External Relations email on January 23, 2026, at 3:30 pm

Dear FIT employees:

As we all look ahead with enthusiasm to the start of the semester next week, we will be closely monitoring weekend weather conditions that may affect the first few days of classes beginning on Monday, January 26.

We are aware that the New York State governor has declared a state of emergency due to the anticipated winter storm and we will be tracking both the State and the City announcements on weather decisions throughout the weekend. The safety of the FIT community remains our top priority and we have reached out to the presidents of the Faculty Senate, UCE, and the Student Government Association to let them know we will keep everyone informed in a timely manner.

To that end, the college will issue an update by Sunday at 3 pm to notify the community of any changes to Monday's classes and operations. Please note that should the weather conditions severely hinder the ability to travel to campus, the decision will be made to declare a snow day (this means no classes, programs or events would be held)—we will not pivot to remote operations and only those employees deemed essential will be required to be in person on campus. Additionally, in the event of a closure we will send detailed options for making up classes as well as some draft language for faculty to use in communicating with their students.

Sincerely,

President Jason S. Schupbach
