Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in Istanbul, Türkiye, is a well-established technical institution with a long history in engineering and technology education. For FIT Textile Development and Marketing (TDM) students spending their third semester abroad, ITU offers a practical academic environment in a major global textile manufacturing hub. The program allows students to study international textile supply chains and production methods firsthand, examining the bridge between European and Asian markets.

Fall Semester: Applications reviewed and approved on a rolling basis through February 15

Note: Early applicants receive preference.

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Enrollment: Must be matriculated in a Bachelor's degree program
  • Meet with an OIP program coordinator
  • Obtain approval from the Department Chair
  • Meet with an academic advisor and/or thoroughly review degree requirements in Degree Works
  • Capacity: This program is typically limited to two (2) students each Fall, as approved by their FIT department.

  • Eligible to participate in the 3rd semester (AAS)

Students will take a pre-mapped full-time semester credit load at ITU.

Textile Development and Marketing

Students fulfill 3rd semester major area, related area, and general elective courses.

Specific academic calendar dates are not posted until closer to the beginning of term. Typically the ITU calendar is:

  • Late September through late January

Students are generally expected to arrive the weekend before orientation begins.

Students are responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements for the duration of their stay. Students may apply to live in ITU dormitories or search for a privately-rented accommodations.

Students will be required to apply for a Student Visa for the duration of their stay in Türkiye. ITU will provide supporting documentation and instructions after admission.

FIT requires all students to be covered in the U.S. and internationally for the duration of their study abroad program. Students are automatically enrolled in the UHC Study Abroad Insurance, which is included in the budget linked above. This policy is SUNY-mandated, therefore, it cannot be waived. 

The UHC Study Abroad Insurance is ACA compliant and students may waive the FIT Haylor Student Health Insurance using the Study Abroad policy.

Students are eligible for student support services offered to all ITU students.
