About the Conference
Join the Department Student Life and Department of Residential Life as we host FIT's
second annual Womxn's Empowerment Conference—"Becoming Her. Her Story, Her Way."—in
celebration of Womxn's History Month.
This is not a conference you simply attend, it’s one you experience.
The Womxn’s Empowerment Conference is an intentionally curated, one-day experience designed for students and alumni shaping what leadership looks like now and in the future. We bring together a dynamic community of leaders for a day of thoughtful conversation, immersive moments, and genuine connection.
Every session, space, and interaction is designed with intention, creating an environment where insight feels personal and engagement feels meaningful.
Theme: BECOMING HER. Her Story, Her Way.
“Becoming Her” centers on the journey of evolution, self-discovery, and personal definition.
It is a call to action for students, alumni, and industry professionals to move beyond
pre-written expectations and lead with authenticity. Through shared stories and lived
experiences, we aim to show that the next generation of womxn leaders can create their
own magic and define success in ways that feel true to them.
Stay tuned for this year's speakers!

Art of Agency
We begin our day of telling stories our way with Yaya DaCosta as she explores the power of owning your narrative—on screen, in your career, and
in your everyday life. Drawing from her journey as an actress, producer, and advocate,
she will speak to the courage it takes to evolve publicly, the responsibility of representation,
and the discipline behind creative longevity. Yaya will challenge us to define success
on our own terms, use our platforms with intention, and lead with both authenticity
and purpose.
This intergenerational panel celebrates the power of FIT alumnae leadership. Womxn from every era, from emerging leaders to seasoned executives, reflect on how FIT influenced their growth and impact. Featured panelists include fashion executive and VP of Community Relations for Latin Biz Today, Christina (Tina) Treviño, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Rue Gilt Groupe, Molly Taylor, designer and creative director Madeline Gardner, and Digital Marketing and Media Manager at Fendi, Nayantara Sam. Moderated by cultural strategist and community builder, Cara Araneta. Panel planned in collaboration with FIT Alumni Relations.
Our fireside chat with Remi Bader will dive into authenticity in the age of social media, body confidence, and building a brand by simply being unapologetically yourself. Known for reshaping conversations around fashion inclusivity and self-acceptance, Remi will share the realities behind her rapid rise, the pressures of public visibility, and how she’s turned vulnerability into influence. Expect an honest, empowering conversation about owning your voice, navigating criticism, and creating impact without shrinking yourself. Moderated by Denise Delgado-Pesante
A vibrant marketplace spotlighting womxn-owned businesses. This interactive lunch and networking experience features vendor pop-ups, product demos, and opportunities for sponsors to host activations and connect with attendees in an authentic way.
This panel spotlights the bold resilience of women founders who dared to build their own empires from the ground up. Through candid stories of grit, growth, and courage, speakers reveal what it means to define success on their own terms and the audacity it takes to write your own founding story. Featured panelists include Sora Lee, Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of THE SORA LEE, Candace Witherspoon, owner of Candace Witherspoon Salon, and Fatou Barry, founder of PR Girl Manifesto. Moderated by Lauren Bell.
We welcome Naturi Naughton-Lewis for a keynote that centers resilience, reinvention, and the power of trusting your voice. From chart-topping music to commanding roles on screen, Naturi’s career has been marked by bold pivots and unwavering determination. She will reflect on navigating public scrutiny, advocating for herself in competitive spaces, and building longevity in the entertainment industry. Her message will challenge us to stand firm in our worth, embrace evolution, and pursue purpose with clarity and confidence.
