During normal operations, SPARC faculty and staff are happy to host FIT Faculty, Graduate Students, and Museum at FIT staff for research appointments to be held in the SPARC Reading Room, Goodman Center Room E435. To the best of our ability, we will host non-FIT community researchers remotely.

In-person appointments for FIT Faculty, Graduate Students, and Museum at FIT staff may be available Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10a-1p depending on various conditions. Two (2) researchers will be allowed appointments per day, which represents one-third (1/3) capacity. Researchers will be required to supply their own pencils and other supplies and/or equipment for personal use.
Remote/virtual appointments for non-FIT community researchers will be held at the discretion of the College Archivist.

A maximum of three (3) linear feet of material will be available for a given appointment. All materials are paged for researchers; nitrile gloves must be used by all parties at all times when handling materials. After each use, all materials will be quarantined according to the following protocols:

  • Rare Books: 3 days before next use by a separate party
  • Rare Periodicals: 4 days before next use by a separate party
  • Manuscript Collections and Archives: 4 days before next use by a separate party
Please see "Reopening Archives, Libraries, and Museums (REALM) Information Hub: A COVID-19 Research Project" links for more information on recommended quarantine protocols:

To propose an appointment, please contact the College Archivist at [email protected]
or call (212) 217-4386. Please contact us at least one week before you would like to conduct your research, letting us know which items from our holdings you would like to view. In the event you need to cancel or delay your appointment we ask that you inform us as soon as possible.

Please see our Research section for assistance with a line of inquiry and for questions about your visit.

If you've visited us before, we'd love to hear about your experience.
