Biography

Christie Shin is a design educator whose work explores the intersection of AI, creativity, and digital product design. With more than three decades of experience as an educator, creative consultant, and design director, she focuses on AI-assisted design, UX/UI and product design, branding, and creative workflows with generative and agentic AI.

At FIT, Shin leads initiatives integrating AI into design education. She introduced AI-assisted design courses beginning in 2025, helping shape new curricula that explore how designers collaborate with generative and agentic AI systems. She also develops curricula and research initiatives that integrate AI into contemporary design practice, helping students and professionals learn how to collaborate with intelligent systems in ideation, storytelling, prototyping, and product development. Her research focuses on empowering design education with AI and exploring creative intelligence at the intersection of AI, design, and creativity.

Shin has organized and curated several initiatives advancing AI in creative practice, including The Age of CI (Creative Intelligence) and an AI Hackathon at FIT, bringing together students, educators, and industry partners to explore new creative workflows with AI. She has also presented her research on “Agentic Design: Architecting the Future of Creative Intelligence” at institutions such as the University at Albany, contributing to the growing discourse on AI-native design education.

Shin currently serves as Curriculum Committee chair and co-coordinator of the Creative Technology & Design subject area at FIT. Her contributions to scholarship and creative practice earned her the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities (2023–2024) and the Faculty Excellence Award (2017). In parallel with her academic work, Shin is Partner and Design Director at Cynda Media Lab, where she has led award-winning work for global clients, earning more than 60 national and international design awards. Through her teaching, research, and industry collaborations, she continues to explore how AI can expand creative intelligence and transform the future of design education and practice.
