Sonja Rubin

Adjunct Associate Professor | Fashion Design MFA

Sonja Rubin has been involved in the fashion world since the age of 16, studying in Milan, London, and New York.

Originally from Vienna, Austria, Rubin co-founded Rubin & Chapelle in 1997, where the line quickly became a sought-after brand with numerous celebrity clients and international retail clients. She has worked for designers and retailers including Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs. Rubin & Chapelle is among the first designers to establish retail presence in New York’s Meatpacking District and opened their second retail store in Malibu.

In 2011, Rubin was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She has received a number of awards and nominations from institutions including Fashion Group International, the Smithsonian and the City of Vienna, Austria. Selections from Rubin’s designs are part of various prestigious museum collections.

Rubin earned a Diploma for Fashion Management and Design in Fashion from Michelbeuern College in Vienna and holds an Associate of Applied Science in Fashion Design from Fashion Institute of Technology.
