Biography

Dr. Shireen Musa is a tenured full-time International Trade and Marketing faculty member. Her academic research and peer-reviewed publications focus on introducing novel ideas regarding compassion, mindfulness, and global social/environmental stewardship.

Dr. Musa holds a Doctor of Professional Studies in Business from Pace University, an MBA in International Business from Saint Peter's University, and a BS in Marketing (concentration in International Trade) from FIT. She is also a licensed U. S. Customhouse Broker. In addition, Musa has multi-industrial corporate experience functioning as an International Trade Manager for The Donna Karan Company, Lucent Technologies, and Deloitte. She has extensive experience in customs compliance, global trade, international sourcing, and import/export regulations.

Dr. Musa served on FIT's Sustainability Council for approximately 10 years, as well as numerous college-wide committees and was the advisor for the International Trade Student Association for five years. She also served as chairperson for the ITM Tenure and Promotions Committee for three years. She has written and updated many courses for the college.

Dr. Musa is active in organizing conferences and seminars on campus and presenting at academic and industry conferences. These include the Organization of Women in International Trades (OWIT) 2008 World Conference in Mexico; FIT's 2009 and 2013 Annual Sustainable Business & Design Conferences; the 2012 Green America Festival and Business Seminar in NYC; Intertek's 2013 Ethical Sourcing Forum in NYC; the 2015 Macromarketing Journal Conference in Chicago; and the 2019 Sustainability Consortium Conference in Chicago. She also organized and hosted the 2015 and 2017 ITM Sustainable Global Sourcing Forums in NYC.

Dr. Musa enjoys educating students on various aspects of sustainability and fair trade, while teaching Global Sourcing, Global Marketing, Import/Export Regulations, and International Marketing Research. She is a member of the Chicago Fair Trade Organization.

Dr. Musa's most recent scholarly peer-reviewed empirical research on sustainability and fair trade has been published in the Business and Professional Ethics Journal and the Journal of Fair Trade.
