2022-2026 Strategic Plan

""

FIT utilized an inclusive process to set collective goals to move the institution forward. That process began in 2018 and was severely disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The institution returned to that work and a five-year plan was adopted in 2023.

With the arrival of a new president in 2026, and substantial changes in the economic landscape for higher education occurring since 2018, that plan was closed in early 2026.

Key Achievements for Each Goal

  • Revised curriculum development process and resources to support faculty
  • Increased interdisciplinary collaborations and minors, including a MOU for course collaborations
  • Increased visibility of collaborations with showcases and newsletters
  • Initiated planning for the Center for Professional Development @ FIT
  • Faculty mentors supported 2,600 students participants in over 70 industry-sponsored contests
  • Updated dozens of courses to expose students to innovative business practices, AI, and emerging technologies
  • Developed an Emerging Technology Roadmap, Footprint and Advisory Council
  • Held multiple Tech Talks, hands on workshops, and AI symposiums
  • Established an on-campus job registry
  • Conducted a Campus Climate Survey and identified strengths and weaknesses
  • Strengthened connections with alumni through new events including Family Day,  Alumni Weekend, monthly event digest, and alumni mentors for recent graduates
  • Recommended new internal communication strategies to increase engagement and foster campus connections

Additional initiatives were implemented that complemented the work of this plan. These include the development of new degree programs, implementation of a new recruitment software platform, and participation in several SUNY initiatives to enhance student success.

While we are in a time of great disruption, FIT has many strengths to serve as our beacon during the next strategic plan process that can be leveraged to strengthen our position in the market and to overcome challenges.
