Weaving the Future: AI, Tradition & Digital Innovation in African Fashion

This research projecct examined the capabilities of various generative AI technologies in accurately visualizing 3D textures of traditional textiles  and attire from different African countries within an 'immersive virtual gallery experience'.  It also assessed the current status and limitations of AI in generating garment design graphics and its role in the attribution and recognition of AI-generated work.

 Approximately 30 3D virtual garments were be crafted using 3D digital textiles generated through various AI technologies. These technologies enable the transformation of 2D flat graphic textile images into 3D dynamic textures, such as embroidery and weaving.
