Salon Series Collecting Subcultures

Students often visit the and ask how collections arrive, are they donated? What is the process for acquisition? What kinds of outreach is performed to encourage donors to place  collections at FIT?  This series speeks to these questions, aiming to provide a unique exploration of the minds of themselves and to create entrance points into the complex world of special  collection archives management, care and eventual discoverability.

Additionally, the intention behind the salons was to bring awareness to new collections that engage across the curriculum. Hearing directly from the creators of these collections provided a unique opportunity for students to learn about creative and design processes, collector initiatives, and research potential directly from the creatives themselves. This interest in our collection growth has affirmed that we are heading in the right direction.
