Accreditation

The Fashion Institute of Technology is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Its art and design-based programs are reviewed by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, while additional specialized programs are accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.

FIT was reaccredited by its accreditor, Middle States, in 2022 after a rigorous evaluation process. The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2029-2030.

Middle States

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, (267 284.5000), is the unit of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities in the Middle States region, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and several locations internationally. The Commission is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. It examines each institution as a whole, rather than specific programs within institutions.

NASAD

The National Association of Schools of Art and Design is an association of approximately 300 schools of art and design, primarily at the collegiate level, but also including postsecondary non-degree-granting schools for the visual arts disciplines. NASAD was established in 1944 to improve educational practices and maintain high professional standards in art and design education. It establishes standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for art and design and art/design-related disciplines, and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other art/design-related endeavors.

ACBSP

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) is a leading specialized accreditation body for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence. The association embraces the virtues of teaching excellence and emphasizes to students that it is essential to learn. ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels worldwide. Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in 2001 and again in 2011, ACBSP was the first to offer specialized business accreditation at all degree levels.

CIDA

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) is an independent, non-profit accrediting organization for interior design education programs at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. For more than 35 years, this knowledge-driven organization has been passionately committed to the ongoing enrichment of the interior design profession through identifying, developing and promoting quality standards for the education of entry-level interior designers, and then encouraging, accrediting and supporting educational programs to aspire to those standards.
