Commuter Benefit Plan

Information for: Full-Time Employees and Part-Time Employees

Upon your date of hire, you may enroll in the Commuter Benefit Plan through TransitChek®.  This plan enables you to save money on your commute to and from work by paying for your commuting expenses with tax-free (pre-tax) contributions from your paycheck.

There are two accounts available: the Mass Transit Account and the Parking Account. You may contribute up to $260 a month in pre-tax dollars to one or each account to pay for qualified expenses as described below.  If your qualified monthly mass transit expenses or qualified monthly parking expenses exceed $260, you may also contribute post-tax dollars to either account in order to cover your total monthly commuting expenses.

Please note, contributions made to one account cannot be combined or transferred to the other account.  Please be sure you select the appropriate account when you enroll.

Qualified Expenses - Mass Transit Account

Qualified mass transit expenses are the costs incurred for travel to and from work by train, subway, bus, ferry, light rail, or vanpool. TransitChek® offers a variety of mass transit benefit products such as the TransitChek QuickPay® Prepaid Visa® Card, Premium TransitChek® MetroCard®, the TransitChek® Voucher, or the TransitChek CashBack®Account. 

Qualified Expenses - Parking Account

Qualified parking expenses include expenses incurred at a parking facility near FIT or at a parking location from which you commute to work by mass transit or carpool (e.g. train stations and park and ride lots).  You may select the TransitChek QuickPay® Prepaid Visa® Card, the TransitChek® Voucher (if accepted at the parking facility), or the TransitChek CashBack® Account if the other payment options are not accepted at your parking facility. 

Enrolling, Making Changes, and Benefit Availability
You may begin and end participation in this plan at any time and changes may be made throughout the year. Enrollment and changes to existing elections must be completed through the TransitChek® website at www.tams.transitchek.com or by calling TransitChek® at 1-888-618-2435, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., EST. 

To enroll, you will need to provide FIT's Company Code, which is EAW76, and your FIT employee ID number (8 digits beginning with @).  Please note: The “@” symbol in your ID number must be replaced with a capital letter “A”.  Additional enrollment information can be found in the TransitChek® QuickStart Guide and TransitChek® Brochure.

You will select the TransitChek® product of your choice when you enroll. The contribution for the monthly benefit amount you elect is divided in half and taken from each of your semi-monthly paychecks. Once you enroll or make a change, contributions will be deducted from your semi-monthly paychecks in the month following the election or contribution amount change. Once your full monthly contribution is taken, your elected TransitChek® benefit is available for use.
