International Students

FIT offers several noncredit Precollege Program courses appropriate for international students who wish to engage in a short course of study while visiting the United States for tourism, either on a B-2 tourist visa or as part of the visa waiver program.  Federal immigration requirements limit visitors to the United States to a course of study that meets less than 18 hours per week.  The following summer courses are noncredit and can be taken in under 18 hours per week:

  • High School Summer Live:  International high school students may be eligible to register for one course (either the morning or afternoon course) in this program.  The selected course will meet four days a week, totaling 12 hours each week, for three weeks.
  • High School Summer Blended Learning Workshop:  International high school students may be eligible to register for this workshop in its entirety.  The workshop will meet on three consecutive days, totaling 18 hours, during week one.  Six more hours of instruction will be held online over the course of the following one or two weeks, depending upon the workshop selected.
  • Middle School Summer Workshops:  International middle school students may be eligible to register for one workshop per week (either the morning or afternoon workshop) in this program.  The selected workshop will meet four days a week, totaling 12 hours, for one week.  Students may register for one workshop per week for one, two, or three weeks total.

It is the individual student’s responsibility to ensure they travel to the United States under the appropriate visa status and that they comply with the requirements and regulations of their status.  If you have questions about the visa category you require in order to travel to the United States, please contact your local U.S. consular office, which will be able to determine the visa category required based on the purpose of your trip and supporting documentation.  To find your U.S. consular office, visit usembassy.gov.
