Will I automatically be admitted to an FIT degree program after completing the IEL
at FIT program?
No. If you are interested in applying to an FIT degree program, you will still need to apply through our Admissions Office.
Does participation in the IEL at FIT program exempt me from having to take the TOEFL or IELTS if I decide to apply to an FIT degree program in the future?
No. You will still have to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score when applying to an FIT degree program.
Can I take additional classes while I'm enrolled in the IEL at FIT program?
Yes. IEL at FIT students can register and pay for select credit and non-credit evening and weekend courses.
Can I live on FIT's campus?
No. Only students enrolled in FIT degree programs are eligible to live in our residence halls. See Living in New York City for alternate housing options.
Will I be met at the airport?
No. We do not provide transportation to and from airports. There are subway, bus, and taxi services available at all area airports. Information can be found at the following websites:

How many students are in each class?
There will be no more than 18 students in a class.
When will I know which level I am in and what my schedule is?
You will know at the end of orientation.
What kind of training do the instructors have?
The instructors have the minimum of a Masters degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Applied Linguistics, or a related field. In addition, they have experience teaching both in the United States and abroad.
What teaching methods are used?
A variety of methods is used in order to meet diverse learning styles. Instructors design activities which enable students to improve their communication skills in English both verbally and in writing.
Will technology be an integral part of the classes?
Yes. When appropriate, classes are held in computer labs with laptops, internet access, and software for pronunciation.
Will I receive a certificate at the end of the semester?
Yes. Students with passing grades and an attendance record of at least 80% will receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the program.
Am I required to have immunizations in order to study in the United States?
Yes, the State of New York mandates that students be immunized against a few diseases. You can read about the requirements on our Health Services website.
