This introductory course enables students with no background in Japanese to communicate with Japanese- speaking people. The basic skills of speaking, reading, and writing in Japanese are established and Japanese culture is introduced. This intermediate course is designed to review and refine students' communication skills in Japanese. Supplementary reading materials (including poetry, short stories, and magazine and newspaper articles), films, and videos further the students' knowledge of Japanese culture. Teacher-instructed multimedia laboratory sessions reinforce skills learned in the classroom. (G8: Foreign Language)
