The residence halls play an integral role in the development of FIT students as part of a community. They enable students to see their peers not only in an academic setting, but also in a social environment. The residence halls are a focal point for many social activities such as barbeques, dances, and meetings. In addition to the social experiences, The Department of Residential Life provides students with diverse educational opportunities. Each semester, an extensive orientation is presented for all new residents.
Four residence halls house approximately 2300 students. The Residence Life staff is on hand to assist students with their adjustment to college life and New York City. Housing is awarded on a priority basis, and help in finding off-campus housing is available. Since space is limited, no applicant is guaranteed on-campus housing.
New entering students are housed in the three residence halls on 27th street. Each spring, to accommodate these students, the current student population can apply for on-campus housing for the following academic year, at our 31st street residence hall. Students are required to re-apply annually for on-campus housing.
