Susan Hewitt is a partner and creative director at hopperhewitt, a design consultancy founded in 2015 and based in Brooklyn, New York. The focus of hopperhewitt is branding for cultural and commercial clients who value the power of design. Susan’s creative conviction is that thoughtful design can make an essential contribution to businesses and cultural institutions.
Susan started her career at Gensler in her hometown of San Francisco. Her love of travel took her to New York, London, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Sydney on a seemingly perpetual quest to discover the perfect design studio. She finally decided to make New York City her home. Susan has over thirty years’ experience building teams for internationally renowned creative agencies. Prior to founding hopperhewitt, she held leadership positions with Arnell Associates, Desgrippes Gobe, and Creed.
Susan’s area of expertise is branding for environmental and packaging initiatives. She has led major new identity programs for clients including: Victoria's Secret, Patricia Wexler, Aveda, Bruno Mars, and Skinfix.
Susan holds an MFA and BFA with distinction at the California College of Arts. Post graduate course work includes AIGA Business Perspectives for Design Leaders (at the Harvard Business School), architectural studies at the University of California at Berkeley, and the graphic design program at Parsons in Tokyo. Susan is a tenured adjunct professor at FIT and teaches within the Communication Design and Packaging Design departments. Susan has also taught in the Masters in Branding program at the School of Visual Arts and the California College of Arts.
