CFMM 10th anniversary logo2010 was a year of celebratory events to mark 10 years of success for the Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management Program.

Here are some of the ways we marked the anniversary:

100,000 Years of Beauty Book Launch, Panel Discussion, and Reception
February 3, 2010
L'Oréal has undertaken the most comprehensive study of the history of beauty culture dating back to antiquity. Beatrice Dautresme, Global EVP Corporate Communications and External Affairs, and head of the L’Oréal Corporate Foundation, commissioned the book for L’Oréal's 100th Anniversary and asked that the New York launch be done in conjunction with our 10th Anniversary. Professor Stephan Kanlian moderated a panel discussion including Mme. Dautresme, Linda Wells (editor-in-chief, Allure),  and Elizabeth Azoulay (editor of 100,000 Years of Beauty). The discussion was followed by a reception, hosted by the CEO of L’Oréal USA. The event was covered in Women’s Wear Daily.

6th Annual Executive Mentor Luncheon
February 5, 2010
Mme. Dautresme of L’Oréal was also the keynote speaker at this year's Executive Mentor Luncheon. As head of the L’Oréal Corporate Foundation, she presented a $10,000 gift to commemorate the CFMM 10th Anniversary.

FIT/Wharton Retail Conference
April 21, 2010
Wharton's Jay Baker Retailing Initiative and FIT's graduate think tank for the beauty industry hosted a half day conference "Refocusing Retail: Back to Basics or Back to the Drawing Board?" The keynote address by IDEO focused on innovation and the building blocks of effective consumer engagement. It was followed by two panels. Wendy Liebmann, CEO of WSL Strategic Retail, moderated a panel on "Innovative Retail Formats," featuring key players at retail who are successfully evolving their businesses in a shifting consumer market. Marc Gobe, President of Emotional Branding, moderated a panel on "The Youth Market," aimed at providing insight into this influential new consumer, and how businesses might harness this demographic in their own workforce to manage through change.  

Fragrance Foundation FIFI Awards Breakfast
April 23, 2010
Rochelle Bloom, President of the Fragrance Foundation, paid tribute the FIT's CFMM program and 10 graduates who are making a difference in the fragrance sector. The event included a display for the program's 10th anniversary, with posters profiling the 10 alumni. A booklet with their profiles was distributed to all attendees. The Fragrance Foundation also published a lengthy article, detailing the history and growth of the graduate program in the spring issue of their newsletter The Fragrance Forum.

WWD Beauty CEO Summit
May 10-12, 2010
In cooperation with WWD, the CFMM program worked with IDEO to structure a brainstorming session with 12 alumni and current students on the topic of "Product Innovation." A video of the session was filmed and edited by graduate Douglas Bender and it was featured at the Summit.  The students were credited in the event program, which also included a mention of the 10th anniversary by Pete Born, Executive Editor – Beauty, WWD, in his introduction letter.

10th Anniversary MPS Capstone
May 19, 2010
The year's capstone event, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, moved to larger space and attracted 700 attendees. The theme, Beauty 2020: The Future of Beauty, focused on retail innovation, leadership in the 21st century, the future of fragrance, and the future image of the beauty sector. Projects were mentored by the major beauty trade associations (CEW, PCPC and the Fragrance Foundation) and the Wharton School’s Jay H. Baker Retailing Initiative.  IDEO provided Innovation training in New York and in their Asian HQ in Shanghai. The event also featured a video, again produced by program graduate Douglas Bender, which looked back at past capstone projects, many of which predicted important changes in the market.

10th Anniversary Breakfast
September 22, 2010
Working with the FIT Foundation office and a committee of industry advisory board members, a breakfast at Guastavino's celebrated the 10th anniversary of the beauty industry's think tank for leadership. The event featured a video of the program's history, honored our alumni, and allowed the industry to mark this important milestone. Two key leaders of the beauty sector were also honored: Linda Wells, editor-in-chief of Allure, and Marc Pritchard, global brand building officer, Procter & Gamble. Sponsors for the event included Coty, L’Oréal, LVMH, Procter & Gamble, Shiseido, and Target.
