Click here to request the removal of a hold.

Please note: a non-matriculated student is a non-degree student enrolled in one or more credit courses but not admitted into a degree program.

If you are taking courses and are considering an FIT degree in your future, it is imperative that you speak with an FIT representative regarding accumulated credits and admissions. FIT has a strict policy regarding the number of credits a student may take in non-matriculated status and have applied to a degree program. You will be asked to review FIT's Matriculation Status and Residency Policies before your hold will be removed. These policies are also listed in the Undergraduate Catalog.

Whether or not you plan to complete a degree, you must submit your information below in order to proceed with registration. Once completed, you will be emailed with either a confirmation of the removal of your hold or your next required steps. See FAQs below for additional information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did I get this registration hold?
Based on the number of credits you have earned, there are important policies you need to be aware of if you plan to apply to a degree program. We want to provide you with this information and arrange for admissions and academic advisement as necessary.

I already have a degree from FIT. Why did I receive this registration hold?
All non-matriculated students who have earned 24+ credits will receive this hold. If you are taking courses as a returning alumni with no intention of earning an additional degree, please select that drop down option on the form to prevent future holds from occurring.

Does this mean I have to apply to a degree to take more classes, or that FIT wants me to apply to a degree?
No. You can take as many classes as you wish as a non-matriculated student and do not need to apply to a degree if you do not wish to do so. We are simply reaching out to ensure that everyone is aware of the policies outlined in this message so that they can receive the advisement they may need. If you have no intention of pursuing a degree, please select that drop down menu option.

Who do I contact to discuss applying to a degree program?
After carefully reviewing the Admissions website, you can contact the Office of Admissions at (212) 217-3760 or [email protected].

I have already applied to a degree program and was accepted. Why am I getting this registration hold?
Even if you were accepted to a degree program for a future term, you are currently registering while coded as a non-degree student.

I am in a degree program at FIT. Why am I getting this registration hold?
If you received this hold, you were not in degree status at the time it was placed (perhaps you sat out one semester). You must reapply if you plan to complete your degree. For details, visit the Readmission page and contact Admissions with questions.
