MFIT Welcomes a New Staff Member
October 2026

The Museum at FIT welcomes our newest staff member Kristen E. Stewart, who joins MFIT as an Associate Curator of Costume with more than fifteen years of experience in museum costume collections. Most recently she served as the Nathalie L. Klaus Curator of Costume and Textiles for the Valentine Museum in Richmond, Virginia. Previously she worked as a research associate in the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and as a curatorial assistant in the Department of Textile Arts of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
She is completing her doctorate this fall in Virginia Commonwealth University's interdisciplinary program, Media, Art, and Text where her research has focused on the intersection of social power and gender identity manifested in the sartorial codes of menswear.
An alumna of the Fashion Institute of Technology's Fashion and Textile Studies graduate program, Kristen is delighted to be back on the FIT campus supporting that program's students with their annual exhibition. She is most looking forward to collaborating with MFIT's innovative team and working with its renowned collection.
