Faculty Development Grants and Awards

The Faculty Development Grants and Awards (FDGA) Program is dedicated to the development of faculty in their creative inquiry and growth as educators, scholars, artists, designers, business innovators and industry-related professionals. Full-time classroom, non-classroom and adjunct faculty are encouraged to apply for funding.

FDGA Documents, Guidelines & Policies

The Faculty Development Advisory Committee, which is comprised of elected members of the faculty, reviews applications for faculty grants and awards. The Director of Faculty Development, representing the Office of Academic Affairs, supports the committee in their review of applications and forwards their recommendations to the Office of Academic Affairs for final approval.

SUNY System Awards 

The Faculty Development Advisory Committee makes up the base of the local committee reviewing SUNY Chancellor's Awards and the Chancellor's Horizon Award nominations and applications. When necessary additional members participate to meet SUNY guidelines on local committee makeup.  The local committee makes recommendations to the President. Final decisions for all system-wide award recipients are made by SUNY. If you have further questions, please contact [email protected].

SUNY Chancellor's Awards for Faculty Excellence

The SUNY Chancellor awards faculty and classroom assistants who have made outstanding contributions to their respective professional fields, campuses, communities, and the public at large.  The Chancellor's Awards for Excellence are honors conferred to acknowledge and provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. The awards provide SUNY-wide recognition in six categories: Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities, Teaching, and Adjunct Teaching.

  • A call for nominations for both full-time and adjunct Faculty Excellence Awards is announced annually on May 15. 
  • Self-nominations are not accepted.
  • Nominations are due by September  15.
  • SUNY makes decisions by mid-April.
  • All FIT recipients are recognized at the Recognition Celebration in May.

Chancellor's Horizon Award for Faculty Research and Scholarship

The Chancellor’s Horizon Award for Faculty Research and Scholarship honors early career faculty whose scholarly or creative activities have already achieved significant recognition and, crucially, hold strong promise for field-defining impact in the future.  Up to ten awards are conferred annually system-wide. 

  • A call for nominations for the Chancellor's Horizon Award is announced annually on May 15. 
  • Nominations are only accepted from a full professor in a discipline closely related to the nominee's field. 
  • Nominations are due by September  15.
  • SUNY makes decisions by May 1.
  • The FIT recipient is recognized at the Recognition Celebration in May.
