Chancellor's Horizon Award
Call for Nominations: Chancellor's Horizon Award for Faculty Research and Scholarship
Nominations Due: September 15, 2026
The SUNY Chancellor's Horizon Awards for Faculty Research and Scholarship is designed to honor early career full-time, tenure-track faculty whose scholarly and/or creative activities are innovative, have achieved significant recognition, and demonstrate field-defining impact in the future.
This award is open to full-time, tenure-track, or tenured teaching faculty who are within seven years of service from the date of their initial appointment. Please note that the seven-year requirement may include tenured positions held at other SUNY institutions or at institutions outside of the SUNY system. This is a highly competitive award; a committee of Distinguished Academy faculty from across the system will recommend nominees to the Provost and Chancellor, who will confer up to ten awards system-wide.
Key requirements and procedures include:
- A campus selection committee that represents a broad spectrum of the campus community. In our case, our Faculty Development Advisory Committee (FDAC) will serve as the campus selection committee. FDAC will solicit and review nominations to make recommendations to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
- Initial nominations must come from faculty with full professor status in the same or related department or division as the nominee and on the same campus.
- Faculty may not independently apply or self-nominate for this award.
- Nominees must have completed at least one year of service and must be within seven years of service from the date of their initial appointment.
- Nomination portfolios must include a 200-word abstract explaining the nominee’s work, a nomination letter from a full professor, an external letter of support from a senior colleague in the field, a brief CV (no more than 5 pages), and approval from the VPAA. Nominations that do not follow the exact guidelines will be disqualified.
Each campus must only submit one nomination portfolio for consideration on the System level. Please review the Chancellor's Horizon Award guidelines and criteria before submitting a nomination and please contact [email protected] to with questions about the nomination process.
