SUNY Chancellor Zimpher visits FIT

SUNY Chancellor Zimpher at FIT

On March 17-18, 2016, the Fashion Institute of Technology hosted this year's annual joint meeting of the Council of Art Department Chairs (CADC) and the Council of Museum and Gallery Directors (CMGD). Dr. Joyce F. Brown, president of FIT, welcomed members of the two councils and introduced Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher who was invited to be the keynote speaker.

These two groups, the CADC and the CMGD, gather once a year to discuss issues that pertain to teaching in the visual arts and managing visual art departments, as well as organizing and sharing exhibitions. The two-day event at FIT featured presentations such as "CAA - Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for the Visual Arts" presented by Janet Landay, Program Manager, College Art Association Fair Use Initiative; "A NYFA Exhibition Touring Proposal" with David Terry, Director and Curator of Grants and Exhibitions at the New York Foundation for the Arts; and "NY Council for the Humanities Granting" with grants and program officers Kate Sidley and Adam Capitanio.

Each year the conference is held during the spring semester at a different SUNY campus. Previous campus hosts have included SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Oswego.
