January 25, 2023 - update

Visitors are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination to enter the museum and FIT no longer requires face masks be worn in FIT buildings.

Other Health and Safety Protocols

  • If you feel sick, please go home.
  • Face masks are not required but are still encouraged to prevent the spread of Covid-19, colds, and flus.
  • Practice frequent hand hygiene.
  • Practice respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette.
  • If the gallery is at capacity, the Public Safety officer will ask you to wait before entering.

March 7, 2022 - update

Visitors are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination to enter the museum. However, FIT continues to require masks be worn in all campus buildings, including the galleries of The Museum at FIT.

September 13, 2021 - update

Per New York City requirements, visitors must provide proof of vaccination to enter the museum. Please show your vaccination documentation, along with a government-issued ID, to the Public Safety officer posted at the entrance.

Approved vaccination documents are:

  • NYC COVID Safe app
  • Excelsior Pass
  • CDC vaccination card (or photo)
  • NYC vaccination record
  • An official immunization record from outside NYC or the U.S.

July 27, 2021 - update

As of August 6, 2021, the museum will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon to 8 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is free. To avoid overcrowding, groups of people entering together should consist of no more than five friends or family members. The overall capacity of the museum has been reduced to 50%. MFIT hopes to increase capacity in the near future. Additional safety measures include hand sanitizer stations, and the removal of high-touch areas such as interactive displays, seating, and brochure kiosks. It is mandatory that all visitors, regardless of their vaccination status, wear a face mask while in the museum. June 24, 2021 - update

Fashion Institute of Technology and its facilities are operating remotely through the summer semester. The Museum at FIT will remain closed until further notice. April 9, 2020 - update

We have answers to some of your questions relating to the temporary closure of the museum.

Will any of the exhibitions be extended?
There are no plans to extend exhibitions at this time. The Museum at FIT has created a webpage to help you stay connected and easily navigate to some of our online content.

When will the museum reopen?
The museum is temporarily closed until the end of the semester. No date to reopen has been established.

Are you still accepting applications for internships? 
The museum is not currently accepting internship applications. We will resume when the museum reopens.

Can I schedule a tour or class at the museum?
We are unable to book tours or classes at this time, but we will be happy to schedule a visit for your group when the museum reopens.

I would like to request licensing of one of your images. Is this still possible?
We are not processing Rights and Reproduction requests at this time. If you have any further questions regarding museum images please email [email protected] and we will do our best to assist with your query.

I am with the press. Can I still request an interview?

I am a student. Can I request an interview with Dr. Valerie Steele?
Dr. Steele is unable to accommodate student interviews at this time.

March 18, 2020 - update

The Museum at FIT remains closed and all programming is cancelled until further notice. There are no plans to extend exhibitions at this time.

March 13, 2020

In response to guidance provided by FIT, SUNY, and our state and local governments to help limit the possible spread of the coronavirus, we join our fellow cultural institutions throughout New York City and have temporarily closed The Museum at FIT, effective today, Friday, March 13.

While there are no identified cases of COVID-19 in the FIT community, all on-campus FIT-sponsored events have been suspended for the remainder of the spring semester. As such, all of The Museum at FIT’s Fashion Culture special programs have been cancelled for the spring season.
