The FIT Library provides online research and instruction support for our faculty, staff, and students. “Ask the Library” services are available seven days a week - Monday - Thursday 8am - 8pm, Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 12pm - 7pm. Please note service hours are subject to change and the Library is closed whenever the College is closed. Check the Library hours page for up to date hours.

Library Help is available by chat, phone, text, and email. In addition, current students and faculty can request virtual one-on-one research appointments. Access Library Help on the Ask the Library page.
Virtual Office Hours: Research Help Live
Each weekday from 1pm to 2pm, and Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm, a librarian is available for video conference drop-in consultations. To access, log in to Blackboard, and select the FIT Library tab on the top navigation bar.
Access to ONLINE Library Resources
Remote access to a wide array of online resources, including full-text digital books, magazines and periodicals and over 175 databases is found on the Databases page. A number of resources provide worldwide access to our rare or unique print and video materials including FITDIL, SPARC Digital, Archive on Demand, and other special resources found on the digital initiatives page. You can search the majority of these resources using OneSearch; sign in using your FIT username and password when prompted.

Online Support For Faculty
The FIT Library can assist faculty with transitioning courses online and provide online library instruction. The Services for Faculty page provides options for FIT Library content and instruction for your course, including:
- Synchronous (live) or asynchronous online instructional session, ready-made video tutorials, customized tutorials, or a research guide for your class. Use the Spring 2021 Instruction Request Form to place your request.
- Add a librarian to your Blackboard course shell to participate in discussions or build library-related content of your choosing - contact your Library Liaison
- Assistance on questions about copyright, Fair Use, and related topics as you plan your course as well as access to the Fair Use Evaluator; email Carli Spina ([email protected]) for personalized assistance.
- Access to a wide array of Open Educational Resources (OER) that can easily be integrated into your Blackboard course. Check out our guide or email Helen Lane ([email protected]) for more information.
Onsite Library Services Spring 2021
Limited Scanning from our Collection
Limited scanning from books at FIT is available to current members of our community: faculty, staff, students, and tutors. Use the online request form to submit your request (you must be signed into your FIT Google account to view the form). Requests may take up to one week to process. Requests must be copyright compliant, such as one entire chapter of a book. Requests outside of compliance will be canceled.
Self-service scanning at a BookScan station located on the 5th floor lobby of the Library and will be available on February 1. Make a reservation to guarantee a socially distanced time slot using the BookIT system. Hours are 10am-10pm on Monday-Friday, (closed Wednesdays) and 11am-5pm on Sunday, (closed Saturdays). Onsite library users must comply with college guidelines regarding Covid-19 safety protocols. There is no onsite support for this service.
Curbside Pick Up resumed on Monday, February 1.
There will be very limited access to library books and DVDs to current members of our FIT community: faculty, staff, tutors and graduate students, undergraduate students using “curbside” pickup in the Goodman Lobby. Requests are made through OneSearch, using the “Request for Curbside Pick Up” link once you are logged in and reservations are required to schedule a pick-up. Pick up hours are Monday - Friday 12pm - 3pm.
Plan ahead, turnaround time may take up to one (1) business day or longer based on staff availability. Requests received after 5pm will be processed the following business day.

If you have enrolled for Winter and/or Spring semesters and have library material with a due date of December 22, 2020, the due date has been extended to February 16, 2021. If you are not enrolled, please consider returning material as soon as it is convenient or contact us. Accrued fines from 2020 will be waived and holds on accounts will not be applied. Use My Library Account to view all material you currently have checked out (you must be a currently enrolled student to access this feature).
Having problems renewing your books? You may have maxed out your renewal limit, but email [email protected] for assistance. We will accommodate you.
Ready to return your library books? Drop off for library material is available using our secure drop box located just outside of Goodman Center (jpg image for reference) or by mail. Please see the Loans & Renewal page for additional instructions and information, including our quarantine period for returned material.
Are you trying to return a textbook rental that you got through the FIT Bookstore? Click for instructions from the bookstore; do not return these items to the library as we have no way to get the items to the bookstore and you will continue to be charged for the rental.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is available. We are currently accepting physical item requests and article/book chapter requests from FIT patrons if available in digital format; however, we are unable to accept e-book requests. Article/books chapter requests are usually filled within 3 business days, but may take longer. Physical items usually take a week to arrive, but shipping delays may occur. Please be mindful of the number of pages you are requesting as some libraries will not fill a request over 50 pages. Please refer to our FAQ for more information on how to request articles. Special Collections and College Archives (SPARC)
Appointments to view SPARC materials are currently unavailable for FIT faculty, FIT graduate students, and Museum at FIT staff.

The Library remains closed to visitors from outside the FIT Community until further notice.
When will the Library re-open?
The FIT Library will operate remotely through May 2021.
The Library plans a phased re-opening of the library building in concert with updates from the college administration. Any re-opening dates and services will be widely shared through the Library’s regular communication channels which include the FIT website, emails, newsletters, and social media platforms.
Please be advised Library services and/or access may change or cease at any time dependent on college administration directives based on SUNY, state, and city mandates.
