Entrance and Exit Loan Counseling

Direct Stafford Loans: All students taking out a Direct Subsidized Loan or Direct Unsubsidized Loan for the first time at FIT must complete an entrance counseling session before their loan funds can be disbursed.  Financial Aid Services will host "in-person" sessions during the Spring 2020 Orientation and at the beginning of the Spring semester.  For a list of these sessions you can go to Direct Loan Counseling Sessions.

All new Direct Stafford Loans require that you also complete a Direct Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN), which you may complete online at studentloans.gov

For more information, visit our Federal Direct Stafford Loan Program page.

Direct Stafford Loans: Exit loan counseling is required when you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment. At FIT, you must be enrolled in at least 6 credits in your degree program to be considered half-time for Direct Stafford Loans. The dates for "In-Person" Direct Stafford Loan Exit Counseling Sessions for this Fall 2019  have ended.  Exit counseling sessions can still be completed online at studentloans.gov.

If you have any questions regarding your exit counseling requirement, you can contact the Loan Team at [email protected].

Perkins Loan: Exit counseling sessions are completed through the Bursar's Office.

Graduate PLUS Loans: Exit counseling sessions can be completed online at studentloans.gov.

Graduate PLUS Loan:  If this is your first Graduate PLUS Loan, you must complete an Entrance Counseling Session for a PLUS loan and a Graduate PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN) at studentloans.gov - even if you have previously completed one for a Direct Stafford Loan.
