FIT, like most colleges and universities, uses a common application process the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid or FAFSA on the StudentAid.gov website. New York State - FIT TAP Codes:
Associate Programs - 2070  Bachelors Programs - 0975

Both the student and a parent will need an FSA ID and their 2019 income information to complete the student's 2021-2022 application. New York State (NYS) residents attending NYS schools can link directly to the TAP Application from the FAFSA submission confirmation page. If you exited the FAFSA before completing the TAP application – and you filled in your New York State address and a New York State college on the FAFSA – HESC will automatically receive your information in about three days.  HESC will then send you an email or postcard with directions to complete the TAP application online.

For more TAP information, please check our State Grants page to available state grant deadlines and eligibility information. The application deadline for TAP is June 30 of the academic year for which the aid is sought.

Current Status of Financial Aid Processing:

Our financial aid email accounts are the best way to stay in contact with us

While we recommend using the IRS data retrieval tool (DRT) when completing the FAFSA to submit tax information, if you choose to email tax returns, be sure to put the student's FIT ID number on the top of all pages.  Please note that your file may be delayed if you do not use the IRS DRT.

If you are sending documents to Financial Aid Services, we request that you email your documents in PDF, JPEG, or TIFF formats to [email protected]. An example is attached of the 2019 IRS 1040 and the 3 schedules  that may be required for your 2021-2022 FAFSA.

COVID-19 Scam Targeting Students

A warning from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been issued regarding a current email scam that is being sent to students advertising how to receive the economic stimulus check. These phishing emails have misleading subject lines such as “Memo from The Financial Aid (COVID-19 Relief Fund)” and ask students personal information. Do not answer email asking for your login information or follow a link that will download malware.

For more information you can visit our Scams page.
