Campus and Facilities

Access to FIT Buildings

Masks Required: All students, employees, and visitors will be required to wear masks while in all spaces in FIT buildings, including 236 West 27th Street and 333 Seventh Avenue. The single exception is when you are in an office alone or when you are eating and drinking. Mask-wearing will continue until further notice in order to protect those who are unvaccinated and to ensure extra protection for everyone. If you arrive on campus without a mask, you will be given one by a Public Safety officer.

Social Distancing: Social distancing requirements have been eliminated. Mask-wearing will be enforced to protect the unvaccinated. All classroom and work spaces will be set for standard capacity levels.

FIT IDs and Semester Stickers: All entrances to FIT properties—including 236 West 27th Street, and Floors 13–16 at 333 Seventh Avenue—will be open and staffed with Public Safety officers. To gain access, employees and returning students must show an FIT ID with a spring 2020 sticker. With the beginning of the fall semester, Fall 2021 stickers will be distributed.

Ventilation: FIT meets and exceeds all ventilation standards of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of New York, and SUNY. Details about the ventilation system and its operations are included in the attached document.

Cleaning: All FIT spaces are thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis in accordance with CDC, State of New York, and SUNY guidelines.

The Museum at FIT Is Reopening

The museum will reopen Aug. 6 with new hours: Wednesday–Friday, noon–8 pm; Saturday and Sunday, 10 am–5 pm.

All visitors, regardless of their vaccination status, must wear a face mask.

Currently, the overall capacity of the museum has been reduced by 50%; to avoid overcrowding, groups entering together should consist of no more than five friends or family members. Additional safety measures include hand sanitizer stations, and the removal of high-touch areas such as interactive displays, seating, and brochure kiosks.

The Library Is Closed

The Gladys Marcus library expects to reopen to in-person service at the beginning of the fall semester. Currently, the library continues to provide online research and instruction support for faculty, staff, and students. Visit the library website for a full list of services and current hours, or drop into library virtual office hours to chat with a librarian (Monday–Thursday, 1–2 pm).
