This video explains who needs to take placement exams and how to make an appointment for one.
What You Need to Know
Competency in English, arithmetic, and algebra are graduation requirements at FIT/SUNY. To ensure success, English and math placements are required.
Placement is determined by taking one of the following exams:
- SAT examination, both verbal and math, including the essay writing examination
- ACT examination, both verbal and math, including the essay writing examination
Please have your SAT/ACT scores sent electronically to FIT:
- SAT: Go to College Board. FIT's school code is 2257.
- ACT: Go to ACT Test for Students. FIT's school code is 2744.
After being admitted and paying a tuition deposit, you can register for the English and math courses that coincide with your major based on your SAT/ACT scores.
If you have not taken either of these exams in the past five years, you must take the FIT placement exams before registering for English and math courses.
If you need accommodations for your placement exam, you must register with the Office of Disability Services, FIT-ABLE, prior to taking the exam. Please visit the FIT-ABLE web page for further information.
International Students: If you were required to submit a TOEFL score, you should take the FIT English placement test as soon as you arrive at FIT. You cannot register for any English (EN) course until you take the exam.
