FIT's Reporting System

FIT seeks to empower our community to protect themselves, stand up for others, and do the right thing. We have partnered with a secure electronic reporting system called STOPit to enable the FIT community to report suspected misconduct with privacy and dignity.  Our goal is to create a safe and trusted communication channel for you to come forward to report when you have a reasonable basis for suspecting, witnessing, or experiencing illegal, fraudulent, or other inappropriate conduct that violates any governmental regulation or college policy.

STOPit is not intended to report real-time emergencies or threats. If you need to report an emergency, call the Office of Public Safety at (212) 217-7777 or dial 911.

STOPit can currently be accessed via a mobile app (preferred method) or by calling a secure hotline. Reports may be made anonymously, but an end-user may choose to voluntarily provide identifying information in the content of their report or message at their discretion.

Learn more about how it works by watching a brief video about the STOPit platform.

STOPit App

The STOPit app can be used to submit reports of misconduct or inappropriate behavior.  A report can be a combination of text, images, and/or video evidence. STOPit messenger is also available within the app, which our teams may use to follow up on incident reports in order to ask questions, gather more information, and ensure a quick and effective resolution. Members of the FIT Community receive internal communications with further information on use of, and access to, the STOPit app.

We encourage users to utilize the free STOPit app (available in the Apple App Store or Google Play) for the most robust experience. It enables users to:

  • Report incidents in confidence to a trusted source
  • Access two-way, anonymous, communication
  • Receive real-time important notifications about your report, or other relevant information pertaining to policies at FIT
  • Submit photo or video evidence to support your report
    • Size limit for a single upload is 25MG (users can upload as many files as they wish)
    • Accepted file formats are .jpeg, .png, .mp4, .doc, .csv, and .pdf

STOPit Hotline

A secure hotline is also available by dialing (646) 760-2110. This number is specific to FIT. You may or may not choose to self-identify. Following your report, you will be given an incident number and password to use in the event you want to follow up on your report.

While available, we still encourage use of the app over the hotline because certain features are not available through the hotline. You will not be able to submit evidence or receive any future notifications about your report, and, once your phone call has concluded, you will not have access to two-way communications to follow up.

STOPit FAQs

Learn more about STOPit

None! STOPit does not require any end-user information. Information provided by STOPit app users (and hotline callers) is kept private and secure. Reports may be made anonymously, but an end-user may choose to voluntarily provide identifying information in the content of their report or message.

Yes, STOPit is completely anonymous when a user chooses not to reveal their identity. STOPit is never provided with any app user information, nor does FIT have the ability to identify an anonymous reporter using the platform.

Unless you include your name or other identifying information, all reports and messenger chats via the app will be anonymous. STOPit does not have the ability to disclose your identity to FIT or any third party.

Whether submitted via the app or hotline, reports are routed to the appropriate team as identified in accordance with FIT’s established policies for the type of report received. You may review the Guidance on Reporting Suspected Misconduct to FIT or the Student Complaint Resolution page for more information on what types of concerns each policy governs, and learn more about the reporting and investigative processes for different types of policy violations.

FIT values all reports. All submissions will be reviewed, and someone from the appropriate team will reach out to you to discuss further. Reports are reviewed under the scope of the appropriate policy to determine whether an investigation is merited.

Users can check the app to see whether their report is open or closed, and can also communicate via messenger if they want to inquire about the status of their report.  (Remember, if using the hotline, users are not able to do this, which is one reason the app is the preferred mechanism for reporting.)

If your documentation is in an electronic format, you may upload it to the STOPit system with your report. If you are unable to provide your documentation in an electronic format, indicate in your report that you have documented evidence that you have not included.
