Sarah’s investment in urban, translingual teaching and learning began at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus and continued at Lehman College, CUNY, prior to her arrival at FIT in 2016. She focuses on writing center tutors’ education and on building collaborative relationships with faculty to promote inclusive and productive tutoring and teaching across the campus. She values listening carefully and asking generative questions to invite and support critical engagement from students and colleagues.

Sarah has taught courses on first-year writing, upper-level interdisciplinary seminars, professional communication, peer tutoring and writing studies, and graduate reading and writing in Public Health. Her work has been published in The Writing Center Journal and College English; she has an article forthcoming in a WAC Clearinghouse collection on graduate writing support. Her current research focuses on how writing center directors facilitate tutors in learning about and applying knowledge of the ideological nature of literacy and language teaching and learning.

Sarah has presented at the International Writing Centers Association Conference (IWCA), the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), and the American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) Conference, among others. She has also worked with numerous peer and professional tutors to propose and present their work at professional conferences.
