Tracy Backus

Tracy joined Teknion in April 2000 and has held multiple positions during her tenure. She is currently Teknions Director of Sustainable Programs for the United States. She has highlighted the importance of environmental values throughout Teknion and the company's clients, both internal and external.

She is an USGBC and IIDA member, certified instructor by ULE/ Greenguard on Indoor Air Quality Emission, an International Living Futures Institute Ambassador, and is an IDCEC approved presenters on sustainable forums throughout North America. As a member of Teknions Sustainability Program, her key role is to ensure responsibility for the development, outreach, business strategies and support of Teknions environmental initiatives.

She currently holds the leadership role for four of Teknions key corporate environmental and social responsibility initiatives: Living Green Educational Series supporting LEED AP seeking credentialing through CEU programs, CSR with Habitat for Humanity, the Health Product Declaration Collaborative which through transparency actively promotes the reduction and elimination of harmful chemicals from building products and ANEW- turning corporate surplus into community service. ANEW awarded Tracy the 2012 Social Sustainability Champion Award at Greenbuild, recognizing her work uniting social responsibility and environmental responsibility for Teknion.

Her passion for community has taken her beyond the office to remote locations in Honduras. For the past five years she has been volunteering with in-country communities, clinics, Living Waters for the World and local churches to provide a basic need, clean water. She and a small team of 5 have changed the lives of over 4,000 people in Honduras to date with water purification and educational programs surrounding the importance of health and wellness by providing access to clean water.
