Our entire community looks forward to welcoming you to campus this fall! You will need to follow a few important steps to secure a place in the Fall 2018 entering class and be prepared to enroll. Please review the enrollment checklist below and contact the individual departments for additional information or assistance.
Take a selfie with your folder and post it using #fitwelcome Tag FIT’s social media channels: Facebook (facebook.com/FashionInstituteofTechnology), Instagram (@FITNYC), Twitter (@FIT) and LinkedIn (Fashion Institute of Technology). Send in the Candidate Reply Form and the $150 nonrefundable tuition deposit, postmarked by the deadline on your form, to secure your place in the Fall 2018 entering class
You may submit the $150 tuition deposit by check, money order, or credit card authorization. Checks/money orders should be made payable to FIT. The student identification number noted on the Candidate Reply Form and the offer of admission letter must be listed on your check/money order. We cannot process tuition deposits online so please mail your Candidate Reply Form and tuition deposit in the postage-paid envelope enclosed in your offer of admission folder or address your envelope to: Bursar’s Office, Cashiering Operations, Fashion Institute of Technology, 227 West 27th Street, Room B127, New York, NY 10001-5992.
Please Note: We cannot guarantee your place in the entering class if your tuition deposit is not submitted by the deadline listed on your Candidate Reply Form.
Visit MyFIT to review and accept your financial aid award or check the status of your award If you filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority deadline of February 1, 2018, you will receive a notification from Financial Aid Services regarding the status of your award. Students who submitted the FAFSA after the priority deadline will be processed on a rolling basis. If you have not filed a FAFSA, you may do so at fafsa.gov. Late filers may be expected to submit their tuition payments prior to receiving their financial aid award. You will be reimbursed for aid that was awarded after the FAFSA deadline.

You may contact a member of Financial Aid Services at 212 217.3560 or make arrangements to meet individually with a financial aid counselor. Appointments can be scheduled on the financial aid website.
Please note that federal, state, and/or FIT aid is awarded only to citizens/permanent residents of the United States. International students may apply for assistance from the Alternative Loan Program or visit the following sites for more detailed information: educationusa.state.gov, www.internationalstudent.com, www.edupass.org/finaid, www.iefa.org
If you plan to live in a FIT residence hall, the online housing application will be available starting May 4, 2018
You can access the housing application at myfit.fitnyc.edu. A $500 nonrefundable deposit must be submitted with your housing application to hold your space in a residence hall. Please note that your tuition deposit must be processed before you can apply for housing.
Detailed information on FIT’s residence halls and meal plan options can be found at fitnyc.edu/housing. Alumni, Coed, Nagler, and Kaufman Halls house a total of 2,300 undergraduates and have single, double, triple, quad, and apartment-style rooms. Alumni, Coed, and Nagler are located on 27th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues directly across the street from the main campus. Newly admitted undergraduate students typically live in one of the 27th Street residence halls, while currently enrolled students live in Kaufman Hall on 31st Street. Students living in traditional residence-style halls are required to have a meal plan through FIT’s dining service.
Complete and submit the required Health History and Immunization forms FIT Health Services is a primary care facility staffed by physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. All students must complete a Health History form and Notice of Privacy Practices and Consent form online at the FIT Health Portal at fit.studenthealthportal.com. If you will be under 18 years of age upon arrival at FIT, your parent/guardian must complete a Parental Consent form online at the FIT Health Portal. All information is confidential and will be kept on file in order to provide health care services to students during their enrollment at FIT.
Students registered for six or more credit hours per semester must comply with the immunization requirements in accordance with the New York State Public Health Law. Details of the immunization requirements and the immunization form are available at fitnyc.edu/health-services.
FIT has a mandatory health insurance policy for full-time students. All full-time domestic and international students with 12 credits or more are automatically enrolled and billed for the student health insurance. Graduate full time students (9 credit hours overall) are also automatically enrolled and billed for this health insurance. Students can be excused from the mandatory insurance if they have equal or better health coverage from another US-based company. In order to waive the mandatory insurance, it is necessary to complete and submit an online waiver form at haylor.com/FIT by September 15, 2018.
Register for FIT-ABLE Students seeking accommodations are encouraged to register with the Office of Disability Support Services (FIT-ABLE). Complete the 2018 International Student Financial Statement (ISFS) to secure an I-20 or to transfer F-1 status if you are an international student
Admitted international students wishing to secure an I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) status) or to transfer their F-1 status to FIT must complete and submit the 2018 International Student Financial Statement (ISFS). The ISFS form can be found at fitnyc.edu/iss. FIT will issue an I-20 within five working days if you have submitted the $150 tuition deposit, completed the ISFS, and submitted the necessary documentation.
International students who do not require an I-20 must complete the waiver section on page 4 of the ISFS. In order to apply for an F-1 visa from a U.S. Consulate, you must provide the following: evidence of your ability to finance your studies, copy of the offer of admission letter, receipt for the $150 tuition deposit, receipt showing payment of the $200 SEVIS fee, and a valid passport. More detailed information on all aspects of the process can be found at fitnyc.edu/iss. All international students must attend the New Student Orientation Week (August 20-26, 2018) in order to comply with federal regulations requiring the student to check-in at the International Student Services Office within 30 days of enrolling.
Schedule an appointment with an academic advisor and register for classes You will receive an email invitation from the Academic Advisement Center and the Registrar’s Office with information on setting up your fall class schedule. Look out for email instructions for MyPhoto You will receive an email request to send us your photo so we can have your identification card ready when you arrive on campus. Participate in the New Student Orientation Week August 20-26, 2018 You will be invited to a mandatory, 6-day orientation program hosted by the Department of Student Life. The orientation includes numerous activities to help you make an easy transition to FIT. A detailed schedule of events can be found at fitnyc.edu/orientation. Pay your Fall 2018 bills Tuition and fees are billed to student accounts each semester in advance of the August 1, 2018 due date. The Bursar's Office will send you an email notification when your invoice can be viewed and you can submit payment at myfit.fitnyc.edu on the e-Bill and Payment Suite portal. New York State residents are charged a different tuition rate than our out-of-state students. Your residency status is based on the information included in your application for admission. To qualify as a New York State resident, you must have established legal residence by maintaining a domicile in New York State for a period of at least one year preceding the date of the start of the semester. A domicile is defined as "a fixed permanent home to which the student intends to return after being absent for a period of time." More detailed information on the definition of legal resident can be found at fitnyc.edu/bursar.
If you are a New York State resident living outside the five boroughs of New York City, you are charged a county differential and must file an affidavit and application for a Certificate of Residence. Once the Bursar’s Office receives your Certificate of Residence verified by your home county administrator or treasurer’s office, your account will be adjusted to the resident tuition rate. In order to ensure you will be billed at the resident rate, your documentation must be submitted to the Bursar’s Office no later than August 31, 2018.
