November 21, 2014Runway27, an FIT student club founded in 2013, presented Fashion Is Evil, a runway show of designs inspired by seven iconic movie villains, from Catwoman to Cruella de Vil, on November 20. The show, which took place in the Haft Auditorium, featured more than 150 looks, ranging from swimwear to eveningwear, both wearable and wild, shown on student and professional models. This was the second year that the club presented a runway show.
Almost 50 student members of Runway27 worked on all aspects of the show: casting models, designing marketing materials, setting up the audio-visual elements, styling outfits, compiling gift bags for VIPs, photographing the show, and much more. The sold-out show went off without a hitch.
Fashion Is Evil was funded by a grant from the FIT Student Association, as well as sponsorships from Nicole Miller, Vince Camuto, and Levis, among others. The Carsten Institute of Cosmetology donated hair and makeup services, as it did for last years show.
We grew up with these villains, said Libby Merritt, an Entrepreneurship major and president of Runway27. These are our childhood memories.
We saw them as cartoon characters, and now, as adults, we can relate to them, added vice president Dyon Tran, an International Trade and Marketing for the Fashion Industries major.
