Join FIT for Sustainable Fashion, Health, and Beauty: Connecting the Dots, a symposium to be held Wednesday, July 10, through Friday July 12, 2013. The three-day program, which includes workshops, speakers, and an eco-tour/scavenger hunt through New York City's Garment Center, will provide information and foster dialog on the state of sustainable fashion, health, and beauty. Day 1: Workshops
Workshops will be held on Wednesday, July 10, at FIT. Among the topics are:
- Sustainable Textiles and Natural Dyes
- Healthy Skin and Custom Blending Mineral Makeup
- Starting a Sustainable Beauty Brand
Day 2: Conference and Keynote Speech
On Thursday, July 11, a daylong conference of speakers, panels, and breakout sessions will take place at the John E. Reeves Great Hall, Conference Center, FIT, Seventh Avenue at 27th Street.
The keynote speaker is Giusy Bettoni, co-founder of C.L.A.S.S., an international eco-platform that promotes environmentally sensible products. Bettoni's remarks are titled, Welcome to the Third Dimension, Where Design and Innovation Meet Responsibility.
Other panelists include Ruth DeGolia, founder of Mercado Global, a fair trade organization that empowers female artisans in Latin America; Kathy Hattori, owner of Botanical Colors, a natural dye supply company; and Indie Lee, who produces a self-titled line of natural beauty products, as well as other prominent experts and entrepreneurs from the sustainable fashion, marketing, and beauty industries. Day 3: Sustainability Tour
A sustainable fashion tour of New York City with fashion journalist Amy DuFault will take place on Friday, July 12. Participants will tour the city and learn about some of its top brands, as well as visit local dye houses and other sustainable suppliers to get a behind-the-scenes look at these businesses. Registration is limited to 20.
Entry and Pricing
Day-pass tickets are available for $75 per day. Students with ID cards can attend for free.
