FIT Athletes Excel

Four FIT student-athletes have been selected as recipients of the 2012-2013 SUNY Chancellors Scholar Athlete Award. The prestigious honor recognizes outstanding academic excellence, along with athletic achievement. The winners were nominated by FIT Athletic Director Kerri-Ann McTiernan. In addition, the FIT tennis team placed second in the country and three FIT coaches have been honored as coaches of the year.

Cross Country
Kelsey Oglesby
, a first-year Fashion Merchandising Management major from Castleton, NY, was named to the Region XV First Team All-Region. She finished third in the Region XV Championships and was 29th out of 100 in the NJCAA National Championship. Oglesby, who has a 4.0 GPA, was named FIT MVP in women's cross country.

Shachar Keizman
, an Israeli second-year Packaging Design major with a 3.52 GPA, earned All-American honors in two events in the NJCAA National Championships. In a combination of DIII non-athlete and DI scholarship athletes, Keizman finished 13th out of 100 in the breaststroke, 13th in the 200 breaststroke, and 25th in the 200 individual medley. (He is also part of the five fastest relay team times in FIT's overall swimming records.)

Jacquelyn Kicksee, a second-year Advertising and Marketing Communications major from Toronto, Canada, finished 12th overall in the 500 freestyle, 16th in the 200 freestyle, and 17th in the 200 backstroke in the NJCAA Championships. Kicksee was awarded All-American Honors for leading the 800-freestyle relay team to an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships. She has been captain of the FIT swim team for the past two seasons and holds four Region XV individual records: 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, and 200 backstroke. Kicksee is a member of the Region XV relay record for the 800 freestyle. She maintains a 3.87 GPA.

Megan Houff
from Long Meadow, MA, is a first-year Fashion Merchandising Management major with a 4.0 GPA, who has been named Region XV Player of the Year; First Team All-Region. Houff is ranked fifth in the country for hitting percentage, 17th in country for kills per set, and 35th in the country for kills. Selected as MVP for the FIT women's volleyball team, Houff led the team to its first-place Region XV regular season finish. She also led the team in kills and blocks.

Additionally, FIT's women's tennis team came in second in the country in Division III, Region XV, and team member Ashley Yakaboski, a Jewelry Design major from Calverton, NY, was named the National Junior College Athletic Associations national champion for sixth-flight singles. The women's tennis team has won its region championships the past two years.

Coaches of the Year
Lynn Cabot-Puro
was named Women's Tennis Coach of the Year. Carrie Thomas was named Coach of the Year in women's volleyball. D.J. Bevivino took the title for his help in leading FIT's new women's soccer team to a championship this year.
