Freddie Torberntsson, an eighth-semester Graphic Design student at FIT, has won the Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm packaging design competition. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native won over the judges with a concept that offered a bold impression of color and black stripes as well as playfulness.
In addition to receiving a $1,500 cash prize from Maybelline, Torberntsson's design will be produced and initially sold as a limited edition in Asia.
Second-, third-, and fourth-place finalists Joshua Martinez, Baltimore, MD; Joseph
Brown, Far Rockaway, NY; and Joanna Carrero, Brooklyn, NY, also received cash prizes
for their designs, which are being considered for future limited collections.
More than 40 students competed to create a fresh new look for Maybelline's Baby Lips line. Nine of the ten semi-finalists presented their offerings to a Maybelline judging panel on March 22. The six honorable mention semi-finalists, Jessica Kim, Edyta Lewicka, Amanda Marsico, Christian Melgar, Kaimin Sun, and Hwasun Yeon, each received $100 Maybelline gift bags. All remaining students who participated in the competition were given Maybelline products worth $25.
