Noteworthy Work from 17 Majors
On View May 9-22 at FIT Free and Open to the Public
The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will showcase an extraordinary range of work created by 800 students graduating from the colleges School of Art and Design at its annual Art and Design Graduating Students Exhibition on view from May 9 through May 22 at FIT.
The exhibition features work from 17 majors, including Accessories Design, Advertising Design, Communication Design, Computer Animation and Interactive Media, Fabric Styling, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Jewelry Design, Menswear, Packaging Design, Photography, Textile/Surface Design, Toy Design, and Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design.
The pieces in the exhibition represent the culmination of each students unique experience in FIT's diverse, challenging, and demanding undergraduate Art and Design programs. Featuring juried, award-winning, and thesis projects, this presentation is the manifestation of several years of research, experimentation, critical thinking, and artistic proficiency.
Each area of the exhibition will have a QR code so that potential employers can download students contact information.
One particular highlight will be The Pink Issue: Barbie Play With Fashion, a two-story installation inspired by Barbie and Ken dolls. Created by students in Fashion Design, Interior Design, Jewelry Design, Photography, and Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design, the exhibition will showcase:
- Barbie and Ken fashions made from non-traditional materials on life-size mannequins
- Models of new rooms for Barbies Dream House
- Full-size replicas of furniture
- Photos and short films featuring Barbie and Ken
- A storefront window inspired by Barbies Dream House and Play With Fashion
The Art and Design Graduating Student Exhibition is free and open to the public. Visitors enter at The Museum at FIT or at the Marvin Feldman Center, 27th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Exhibitions are displayed on the main floors of the Marvin Feldman, Fred P. Pomerantz Art and Design, and Shirley Goodman Resource centers, and in the John E. Reeves Great Hall and The Museum at FIT.
